Killington Part 3

We have just spent our third weekend up at Killington and things just keep getting better. The snow, the drive, the cost and of course our skillz. We drove up Friday night after work and when we were about 10 miles from the mountain we saw our first car in a ditch. There was a small cover of snow / frozen rain on the road and it hadn't been ploughed or "nuked" with salt yet. So following most other car's lead, we slowed to around 30 mph and put on our hazard lights. We really only had one scarey moment when a corner appeared out of the dark and I knew if I started to turn as much as the corner required, we may start sliding into the ditch. Without touching the brake and by gently adjusting the wheel we made it around the corner. It was only afterwards that I announced to Jen that we may have ended up in the ditch. While going up a steep hill we saw a ute (pickup) that was almost going backwards as he had hardly any traction. Every time he tried to get some speed, his back slid out. Apparently this is a common problem for ute's as they are so light in the back. Us on the other hand made it around him and carried on safetly to our lodge. Thank you snow tyres! You can see how fully sick thsoe tyres are in the picture below.

Saturday morning we got out there around 9am in fully weather proof gear. It was on and off drizzle / snow for most of the day, which like last time, made for some very soft conditions. This suited as fine as we are comfortable in slower conditions, as opposed to ice! We also discovered the "family area" that had a few good blue runs and seemed relatively deserted compared to the rest of the moutain. Well we stayed out there until just before lift closing at 4pm.

We got some light snow overnight and you can see me below cleaning the car off ready at our lodge. So Sunday we found some edge trails that although thinly covered, were all powder. It was so soft and safe to ski on that Jen even got into trying to jumps! Well of course towards midday we got tired, starting making mistakes and decided to call it quits around 2pm. Not a bad weekend.

We have a busy next few weekends with next weekend in New York City, then it's Christmas at home. Then we are heading to Maine to try skiing at Sunday River, then after that it's back again to Killington! It's also going to get really cold here this week with it forecast to get down to -9C at home, -11C at work and -16C up at Killington!

We have some more pictures of the weekend and one of me getting wicked air ... well .. some air. Pics here
