Bits and Pieces

I've got a few random things that I want to blurt out here. Firstly training is going well and I am up to 8km today. I took my GPS with me a retraced some of the tracks/roads I took when I got lost that time. Click on the images to have a new window open zoomed in

The Democratic National Convention is in Boston this week and there are heaps of celebs running around. Our landlord bumped into Bill Clinton today just down the road at Harvard. They have shut down heaps of roads around our place ready for any security problems. Half of Boston was scared (of the traffic problems not the terrorism) and left the city, so the roads and free and easy. Although I estimate I saw 40 - 50 cop cars on my way home tonight.

The 9/11 Commission report came out and they even released it in paper back. I bought a copy. It's quite well partitioned so you can dive in and find out things like how the hijackers got visas etc. I also see they have it on audio book, but I'm not that crazy.

I was my birthday last Friday and thank you everyone for your well wishes and presents. I recieved (is it i before e except after c but not before v?) a very American range of gifts from Jen. Red Sox hat, shirt and DVD documentary (of their 2003 terrible loss) They really love the lose and in fact haven't won the "World" series since 1918. All items I have pointed out that I wanted at some stage. Very well noticed Jen. She even got me the latest Beasty Boys album which is a great old school (I actually typed skool but went back and changed it out of embarresment) album with a lot of references to New York City places that I kind of understand a bit more now having been there.

Played cricket last weekend against one of the top teams. We lost. I didnt bat, bowl or even have a catch come my way. I did however run around the field a bit so I guess I helped save some runs and can't entirely be blamed for the loss. Go to http://www.mitcricket.com to see some exciting stats and photos

Just finished Brave New World on audio book and starting on Bill Bryson's Aussie book for my comute to work. Help me choose some more books at http://www.audible.com

Oh and Jen finally updated her site with our latest adventures doing in cheap and camping on the weekend in the US. http://jen.dbradby.net

Boston (Half) Marathon

In an effort to combat all the fatty sugary (and tasty) treats the US has to offer (you really need to try Krispy Kreme donuts). I have registered for the Boston Half Marathon. Not quite as cool as the real marathon, but at least this is something I think I could at least finish.

So it's 13.1 miles (21 kms) and is in 12 weeks time. I found an easy program that takes you from 3 miles to 13 miles in 12 weeks (sounds like an TV ad). Basically I do 2 normal runs plus one long run each week, as well as cricket practise and the actual game. I also intend to lose some of this belly that has been coming along for the ride.

Journey through the ways of getting out

I have just come back from my 3rd game of cricket for MIT here in Boston. We found the mural below on the way to the cricket ground. There really is good support for cricket here from the Indian and West Indian communities.

We initially bowled well and I fieled quite well, although was running from position to position in order to be ready for a catch. For quite a few overs I was running from Long on to Long on. We let them get away and they set us a total of around 220.

I came in quite late and was looking to stay in for quite a while. I was looking good unitl I was involved in a run out (for 1!) and let's just leave it at that. So continues my journery through the methods of getting out. So far bowled, LBW and now run out. I'm hoping to be caught next week.

I have some great photos of us putting down the matting. Click on the photo to see them.
